Getting started
- Click the dashed rectangle in your menu bar, or press ⌃⌥⌘D from any app.
- Drag a rectangle around what you want to read. Everything else dims.
- Drag the frame's edges to move it, or its corners to resize it.
- Right-click the icon for Quick Frame (half, a quarter or a third of the screen), the dim level and other options.
Common questions
I can't see the Dimframe icon in my menu bar.
On MacBooks with a notch, a crowded menu bar can hide icons behind the notch. Press ⌃⌥⌘D to start a frame, or open Dimframe again from your Applications folder to show its help window. Hiding a few other menu bar icons makes room.
How do I remove the dimming?
Right-click the icon and choose Remove Frame. Or start a new frame and click once without dragging.
Can I frame half or a quarter of the screen without drawing?
Yes. Right-click the icon, choose Quick Frame, and pick a half, a quarter or a third of the screen. That part stays bright and the rest dims. It goes on the display whose menu bar you used, and you can still move and resize it like any frame.
How do I make the dimming lighter or darker?
Right-click the icon and move the Dim slider, from 0% (no dimming) to 100% (solid black).
Can I keep my other displays bright?
Yes. Right-click the icon and turn off Dim Other Displays. Only the display your frame is on will be dimmed.
Can Dimframe start when I log in?
Yes. Right-click the icon and choose Start at Login. You can also turn it off in System Settings > General > Login Items.
How do I use the timer?
Right-click the icon, choose Timer, and pick Below the Frame, Inside the Frame or In the Menu Bar. Click Start to count the time you spend on what's framed, Pause to stop it, and Reset to go back to zero. Removing the frame pauses the timer next to it. Choose Off to hide it.
The keyboard shortcut doesn't work.
Another app may already use ⌃⌥⌘D. Try quitting other apps that add global shortcuts, then press it again. If it still doesn't work, email us.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are too. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do I uninstall Dimframe?
Right-click the icon and choose Quit Dimframe, then move Dimframe from your Applications folder to the Trash.
